With March (and spring!) right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to share some light-hearted, lesser-known holidays for the month of March! There are plenty of holidays like these sprinkled throughout the year, but these are a few of my favorites. It can be fun to celebrate silly things, but it can also teach you bigger lessons or maybe even introduce you to a positive new habit!
1. March 6: National Oreo Cookie Day
This is a fun one! March 6th could be a great time to try a different Oreo flavor, such as Java Chip or Birthday Cake, or just enjoy a classic Double Stuf. There are also countless recipes that use Oreos, from cheesecakes to cake pops to dirt pudding, so this day could be a great excuse to head into the kitchen to bake up a tasty treat. But let’s be honest, do we ever really need an excuse to eat a cookie?
2. March 12: National Organize Your Home Office Day
With many people still working from home, March 12 is the perfect time to clean up your work from home space! Even if you don’t have an official home office, tidying up the dining room table or other area where you work is a great idea. Organize those papers, wipe down your laptop or desktop keyboard, and de-clutter your doodads. A clean, organized space can often increase your ability to do your job by helping you find what you need more easily.
3. March 19: First Day of Spring!
The spring equinox will be on March 19 this year, and I am so excited to see all of the beautiful flowers start to bloom around the city over the next couple of months. Spring is traditionally a time for growth and new beginnings, so I plan to set some goals for myself personally and professionally as we head into a new season.
4. March 23: National Puppy Day
If you’re like me, you think dogs make everything so much better! We are lucky at my firm to allow dogs, so we often have furry friends visiting the office. National Puppy Day is also a great excuse to visit your local shelter and offer to play with or walk the dogs there! Be sure to give your furry companions some extra love on March 23.
5. March 30: National Take a Walk in the Park Day
There are so many fabulous parks to take advantage of year-round in the Boston area, but I highly suggest making it a point to visit one of your local parks on March 30! Warmer weather should hopefully be on its way very soon, and what better way to enjoy it than to take a nice stroll in a park? Some of my favorites in the Boston area are Cutler Park in Newton, the Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain, and the Southwest Corridor Park, spanning several neighborhoods. This could be a great opportunity to check out a new park, or just visit an old favorite. You can even bring your furry friend along. If walking is not your thing, consider biking or even roller blading where trails permit!
