Name: Alyssa Lajoie
Company: Corporation for Independent Living (CIL)
Title: Marketing Coordinator
Years Involved in SMPS: 2021-Present
What SMPS committees are you involved with, if any? N/A
Why did you decide to join SMPS?
I’ve known of and have attended SMPS events throughout the 9+ years I’ve been in the AEC industry, and when I finally joined in 2021, it was a combination of having the right support and encouragement to join from my own company, but also my interest in staying connected with colleagues and continuing education and training that helped me decide to join SMPS.
What led you to working in the A/E/C industry?
My dad is an engineer, so my grew up in the AEC industry, as my dad is a mechanical engineer. I vividly remember blueprints on our kitchen table growing up, and getting to drive around and see my dad point out all of the buildings he had done work on. One in particular was the Hartford State Capitol–I remember being so proud to go there on a school field trip and be able to look up at the lights and tell my friends “my dad did that!”
Fast forward some years, after I graduated college, my dad was the one who pushed me to check out the SMPS careers page and that is where I found my first marketing job in the AEC industry…the rest, as they say, is history.
What do you work toward in your free time?
I’m a very hands-on crafty person, so in my free-time I’m working towards some sort of craft. Most recently, I hand bedazzled an old pair of Vans sneakers to wear to a concert.
What are you currently watching, reading, or listening to?
I’m a podcast junkie, so I spend most of my days listening to podcasts like Chicks in the Office and KFC Radio. I’m also reading November 9 by Colleen Hoover right now & watching Succession as it comes to a dramatic close!
