LinkedIn Profile

Years Involved in SMPS: Four months or so!

What SMPS committees are you involved with, if any? N/A

Why did you decide to join SMPS?
I joined SMPS to meet like-minded individuals and develop my professional network. Prior to assuming my current role, I owned a consulting business and worked with a variety of A/E/C clients, most of which were located in the southeast (where I lived for a brief period). Though I grew up just south of Boston, I’m only just beginning to become familiar with this wonderful city as a working professional!

What led you to working in the A/E/C industry?
I grew up admiring the creativity and hard-working spirit of my father, who owned his own graphic design business for many years. When it came time to apply to college, I considered several art-based degrees–such as art therapy and industrial design–but chose architecture for reasons ill-defined at the time. To my delight, however, architecture revealed itself as a wonderful umbrella discipline, under which I could explore many creative forms: drawing, model-building, writing, and graphic design. The final two elements–crafting written narratives and telling compelling visual stories–were my favorite part of the architectural design process. After graduating, it was exciting to discover the world of marketing within the A/E/C industry (they didn’t mention this in school!) and how my interests aligned with it.

What do you work toward in your free time?
I love spending time with my two-year-old son and husband doing anything outdoors; our favorite activity is to ride our bikes along the rail trail to get giant muffins from a local café. I also aspire to regain the long-lost musical talents of my youth by playing the flute. To spare others from my noisy practicing, I only play when I’m home alone–an increasingly rare occurrence–so improvement is slow but steady.

What are you currently watching, reading, or listening to?
My almost-finished commute read is CRM or Die--shout out to Courtney Kearny, a fellow SMPS member who’s seminar I attended when I first joined! My current fiction book is The Last Good Kiss by James Crumley. And the Bluey soundtrack is a constant anthem in our house right now. That might be a kids show, but I’ll gladly listen to its classical tunes any day!
