Years Involved in SMPS: 6 months

What SMPS committees are you involved with, if any?

I don’t think I can claim membership to a committee yet, however I am joining the Special Events committee for their next meeting mid-November to learn more! Event planning for professional and industry events has always been something that has interested me, and I do not typically work in events in my day-to-day role. The prospect of being able to gain that experience in a professional organization to supplement my career is very exciting to me! I attended the SMPS Awards Gala with my team last June and I was blown away by the venue, attention to detail, and the food- I had no choice but to learn more.

Why did you decide to join SMPS?

My manager, Andrew Beaton, brought SMPS to my attention as an opportunity for professional development. His years of positive experiences in SMPS as not only a member but holding leadership positions was a testament to the value the group would add to my life in the A/E/C industry. It was also a pretty great indicator of the quality of people that make up SMPS! I have had the opportunity to network with professionals across the industry outside of my firm (in person!!!) which I am very grateful for!

What led you to working in the A/E/C industry?

I graduated from Penn State in 2021 eager to apply my knowledge to an industry that would consistently evolve, teach me things, and challenge me. I have found that in the A/E/C industry and at my firm. I love to write, and I have found that technical marketing writing teaches me more about our world, refines my skills, and is quite rewarding!

What do you work toward in your free time?

I am working toward being a better runner! When I was younger, I would have laughed in your face if you told me I would have taken up running! I enjoy it now because it is just as much a mental challenge as a physical one- every limit my mind sets for myself on a run can 99.9% of the time be overcome physically (I also really look forward to having designated alone time to zone out and shamelessly jam to ABBA with my headphones at max volume).

What are you currently watching, reading, or listening to?

Currently listening to Taylor Swift’s Midnights album, currently reading Daddy by Emma Cline, and currently watching House of the Dragon.
