For the next few months, SMPS Boston will be celebrating our platinum, gold and silver sponsors by taking a look at what makes them innovative, unique and amazing. First up is Clockwork Design Group!

“My team gets excited and energized whenever we’re coming up with a creative solution. It could be creating a new brand, re-energizing a brand, developing a website, crafting a holiday card…anything that involves being creative always gets our blood pumping. For us, it’s about coming up with concepts and campaigns that stop people in their tracks,” says Vanessa Schaefer, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Clockwork Design Group.

With an award-winning track record, a long list of satisfied clients and a team that’s been together for years, Clockwork has built a strong reputation for doing just that.

Since 1994, Clockwork has helped A/E/C and other professional service firms create authentic and memorable brands. Their work ranges from web sites to enticing ad campaigns, corporate collateral, logos, direct mail, social media marketing, and more. Known for their rapid responsiveness (they’re called Clockwork for a reason!) and keeping a close eye on schedule and budget, the close-knit team at Clockwork is focused on delivering exceptional services to professional services firms and has been since its inception.

“When my partner Mike Fleischner and I were starting out, our background was mostly in tech; we met a law firm client and started doing work with them, and truly enjoyed it,” Vanessa says. “For professional services firms, understanding client experience is core to developing a brand that resonates, and that perspective took our work to a different level. From law firms, we expanded to helping financial advisors, then we got involved in SMPS and started meeting A/E/C firms and our business has grown from there!”

Vanessa and her team have delivered exceptional results time and again; the firm has won a litany of honors including Boston Business Journal’s list of “20 Top Graphic & Web Design Firms,” “Top Website and Branding Firm” by Clutch.co, “Top Web Design Company” by Web Design Rankings, “Top Website Design Firm” by Mass Lawyers Weekly, “Top Website Design Firm” by Banker & Tradesman, and multiple awards by the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) and SMPS.

The latest example of Clockwork’s success was winning the National Award of Excellence from SMPS for designing Acentech’s corporate website.

“This is a great example of a site that understands its purpose and target audience,” wrote one of the judges in the national competition.

Acentech, a world-class consultant in architectural acoustics, noise and vibration control, and audiovisual and technology systems design, collaborated with Clockwork to modernize the brand imagery, improve the website’s visitor and mobile experience, and make the overall navigation more intuitive. For this project, Clockwork conducted a strategic brand audit and analysis of the existing site and developed a site map and plan for improvements in functionality, usability, visual appeal, ease of ongoing management, as well as overall brand strength.

“Our new website needed to be visually compelling to architects, highlight our innovation as an unusual design resource to our highly diverse client base, and emphasize our employee-owned culture,” said Kate Brannelly, FSMPS, CPSM, Acentech’s Strategic Marketing Officer. “To meet the site’s multiple expectations, we knew we required an expert brand agency to help us achieve our goals.”

"When building websites for professional service firms, the best results always come from a collaborative process,” Vanessa says. It’s that passion for creativity, collaboration and effectiveness that sets Clockwork apart and makes them an outstanding partner for professional services firms.
