Our Member Spotlight Blog serves as a platform to welcome new members to SMPS Boston and highlight our established members within the A/E/C community. This week, we're getting to know Lauren Hickey, Marketing Manager at Finegold Alexander Architects!

What SMPS committees are you involved with, if any?
I have been on the Special Events committee for multiple years and am currently the Director of the committee.
Why did you decide to join SMPS?
One of my first supervisors suggested I join SMPS to grow my network and meet peers within the AEC industry. I am so glad I did, as I’ve built some great relationships which are invaluable! When I first joined I was fairly new to the industry, and SMPS provided me with a network of people to reach out to as a sounding board and for advice. And I’ve had a lot of fun at events too!
What led you to working in the A/E/C industry?
Like many of us, I stumbled upon the AEC industry, but have stuck around for over 10 years because of the diversity the job provides working at an architecture firm. No two days are alike, and I’m surrounded by creative people that push me to be creative and think outside of the box. One of my favorite parts of my job is the architectural photoshoots once we’ve completed a project. It’s amazing to see a project go from a rough sketch to a beautiful structure that makes a positive impact on the communities we live in.
What do you work toward in your free time?
In my free time in the summer, you will definitely find me on the beach. I also enjoy concerts, going on hikes and visiting my family in Vermont.
What are you currently watching, reading, or listening to?
After finishing the show, I'm now reading the book Lessons in Chemistry and just picked up Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand.
