What SMPS committees are you involved with, if any?
I currently serve on the Special Events Committee. I previously served on Outreach, Communications, and NERC. As Director of Communications, I held a position on the Board of Directors.
Why did you decide to join SMPS?
Joining SMPS was a pivotal step in my professional development and networking growth. Susan Shelby was a member and she recommended I join. She recommended I join a committee because this is where opportunities for growth and learning are abundant. Ultimately, I became the Chair of the Communications Committee while she was Director. Eventually, I became Director of the Communications Committee, and many valuable lessons were learned, leading to career advancement and a vast network of industry connections. SMPS not only provides a platform for growth but also fosters long-lasting friendships and collaborations, such as the bond I have formed with my esteemed colleague Susan.
What advice would you give to someone considering joining SMPS?
You only get out of SMPS what you put into it. Be open to meeting people - and join a committee!
What are you currently watching, reading, or listening to?
I am reading “Friends, Lovers, and Big Terrible Things”, Mathew Perry’s memoir. I’m also watching the series “The New Look”. Coco Chanel and Christian Dior were rival couture designers and during World War II they found themselves in the same tragic situation: both had family members imprisoned by the Nazis and they were pulling every string possible to save them.
