SMPS Boston Member Spotlight: Catherine Babbidge

What SMPS committees are you involved with, if any? 
I'm currently part of the Professional Development Committee. I joined right after joining SMPS. 

Why did you decide to join SMPS? 
When I joined Visnick & Caulfield in 2022, I was new to both the AEC industry and the only one in the marketing department. I joined SMPS to learn from peers and gain a better understanding of the industry. I got involved with the Professional Development Committee to build deeper connections and to help shape educational programming. I wanted to learn as much as I could about the industry and helping to build the education sessions gave me an additional layer of access. 

What advice would you give to someone considering joining SMPS?
I would say attend as many events as you can, and don’t be afraid to strike up conversations with new people. Stay curious and ask questions, there’s so much to learn from others, whether you’re new or established in your career. Boston’s AEC community is uniquely close-knit, and through SMPS, you’re building a network that will continue throughout your career. 

What is one way you decompress from work?
I am a huge proponent of work life balance. I don’t keep Teams or Outlook notifications on my phone so once I leave the office I’m completely unplugged. I like to stay active and get outside as much as I can, so going for a run or walk always helps me clear my head. Even better if I walk and call a friend or family member to catch up. 

What are you currently watching, reading, or listening to?
Currently reading The Midcoast by Adam White. I’m currently watching The Americans even though it came out a while ago and listening to a lot of different things but I always listen to Olivia Dean’s music.
